Hi, I’m Arielle, a copywriter and creative writer.
I work on product copy at Ralph Lauren, where I have been lucky enough to work on creative, impactful, high-visibility campaigns since 2022.
My copywriting experience covers PDP, app, and UX copy; garment hang tags; email marketing; and social media.
Some of the exciting campaigns I’ve worked on include (but are not limited to!): runway shows, the Australian Open, the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the US Open, the MLB collection, Polo Bear, the Artist in Residence collaborations, the Championships Wimbledon, Pink Pony, and the Ryder Cup.
To read about some of these campaigns, their demands, and the finalized copy, please see below.
Team USA Flagbearer Blazer
The official outfitter for the Olympics and Paralympics, Polo Ralph Lauren designs an exclusive collection for the games every four years, including opening and closing ceremony uniforms. For the summer 2024 games in Paris, my task was to write copy that captured a certain tone—warm, heartfelt, optimistic, resilient, determined, inspiring. This copy was viewed by millions of visitors and sold out in days.
Steps:
Read through all associated briefs, including the Global Messaging Document (GMD).
Identify the most important keywords: proud outfitter, Team USA, Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
Write the copy and send to the International Olympics Committee (IOC) for approval.
Final Copy:
Part of the Polo Ralph Lauren Team USA Collection, this blazer is proudly made in New York City for Team USA's flagbearer to wear during the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024. Its basket-woven cloth is crafted in America with US-sourced wool. At the chest, it features an official logo patch of the U.S. Olympic Team and our signature embroidered Big Pony.
Hand-Painted Leather Café Racer Jacket
Each fall, Polo Ralph Lauren designs a capsule collection called Polo Originals. With a deep focus on the heritage of the brand, these capsules typically revolve around a theme. For the Fall 2023 collection, that theme was Grand Prix racing. In this collection, traditional tailoring met signature fabrications, blending iconic Polo style with sporty functionality. The result? Fair Isle sweaters, supple leather aviator coats, and rich tweeds.
Steps:
Look to last year’s Polo Originals magalog for inspiration and direction.
Meet with the designers of each category of clothing represented in the collection (i.e. the sweater designer, the haberdashery designer, the outerwear designer, etc.) to conduct informational interviews.
Write the copy, keeping all lookbook imagery open for reference on the collection’s intended tone and POV.
Final Copy:
Based on jackets from Mr. Lauren’s personal wardrobe and the Ralph Lauren archive, this outerwear piece is carefully hand-distressed and treated with a crackle effect to emulate a cyclist’s wear. Each one is individually painted by artisan's with signature graphics that nod to the advertisements that were emblazoned on classic café-racing apparel.
PRL x Naiomi Glasses Jacket
For Polo Ralph Lauren’s new Artist in Residence series, we partnered first with textile artist and designer Naiomi Glasses. Our third capsule in this collection, Denim Daydream mixes Ralph Lauren’s rich denim heritage with Naiomi’s love for indigo and weaving. This campaign was the winner of Fast Company’s 2024 Innovation by Design Awards.
Steps:
Attend an both an informational presentation as well as an interview with Naiomi.
Research the significance of the styling of the garment, as well as its motifs and fabrications.
Write the copy, being sure to include relevant background information on the collection as a whole before diving into each individual garment.
Final Copy:
Presenting the third and final drop of the Polo Ralph Lauren x Naiomi Glasses collection, the inaugural collaboration of the Ralph Lauren Artist in Residence program, reflecting our evolved design approach with the artisans and communities that inspire us. The Polo Ralph Lauren x Naiomi Glasses collection honors Navajo heritage and centuries-old weaving traditions. Naiomi Glasses is a seventh-generation Diné (Navajo) textile artist and designer whose work reflects the beauty of her Indigenous culture. This concluding assortment captures Naiomi’s love for rodeo culture, its heritage, and its deep connection to the Navajo way of life. Grounded in denim and rich indigo hues, these pieces find inspiration in the signature attire of Navajo rodeo contestants and the color of Dinétah (Navajo Nation) skies. Based on trophy jackets, this unisex layer features roughout suede sleeves—a particularly nostalgic fabrication for Naiomi, who grew up riding on a saddle trimmed with the same durable material. It is also developed with a wool-and-cotton body that’s interwoven with step diamonds and four-directional crosses. The four-directional cross and the number four carry great significance in Navajo tradition, as well as in other Native communities. They reference the Earth’s four directions and the stars.
US Open Ball Crew Polo Shirt
The official outfitter for the US Open, Australian Open, and Wimbledon, Polo Ralph Lauren designs an exclusive collection for each tournament every year, including official uniforms for the ball crew and umpires. For the summer 2024 US Open, I focused on writing copy that spoke to the storied history between the Polo brand and the sport of tennis, as well as on any performance attributes that each garment had.
Steps:
Read through all associated briefs to determine key messaging points and uniform styling.
Research the performance attributes of each garment.
Write the copy, focusing on functional fabrications and design elements.
Final Copy:
Part of our 2024 US Open Tennis Championships collection, this Custom Slim Fit Polo shirt was designed exclusively for the tournament’s official ball crew uniform. It’s crafted with moisture-wicking stretch mesh and features the tournament’s official logo as well as our signature Big Pony.
Tropical Print Camp Shirt
Though Polo Ralph Lauren designs many interesting capsules each year, just as important are its mainline collections, which deserve just as much care and consideration. This printed shirt was part of the brand’s Cruise 2025 collection, and had a beautiful, storied inspiration that was important to capture in site copy.
Steps:
Research the difference between Hawaiian shirts and aloha shirts, as well as the significance of the motifs included in the pattern
Identify the most important keywords: aloha shirt, lightweight, vintage, 1940s, vibrant, celebrate
Write the copy, ensuring that copy pays proper respects to the culture that inspired its design
Final Copy:
This lightweight piece is inspired by vintage aloha shirts from the 1940s—vibrant garments that typically included motifs celebrating the Hawaiian landscape and culture. Polo Ralph Lauren’s interpretation includes pahu drums and is finished with coconut-shell buttons.
Limited-Edition Patchwork Overshirt
RRL was not one of my “assigned” brands, but I did work on RRL from time to time when my teammates needed help with their workloads. Working on RRL not only helped me to learn so much more about Ralph Lauren’s DNA, but it also taught me how to switch between different voices and POVs.
Steps:
Conduct a deep dive into the construction of the garment, as the RRL brand typically has a more involved design and production process.
Check with design and PD that this is a limited-edition garment and ask how many were made.
Write the copy, focusing on the attributes that make this garment so special and clarify/justify its price point for the consumer.
Final Copy:
Made with indigo-dyed denim from Japan. Each cloth is individually washed, cut, and quilted into a patchwork fabric. Unique selections of the textile are used to construct the garment, which is then washed again to create an aged look. Details inspired by ’40s surplus garments. Signature metal buttons. Edition of 100.
